Randen is the author of the Derek Shaw series. He writes crime fiction thrillers. His novels are heavily influenced by current social issues and concerns.

​He grew up in Newton Kansas and still resides there. This small town was a partial inspiration for his Derek Shaw series. Though the series’ setting of Chisholm is fictional, many of the places described are real.
